Doctor of Education

Program Structure

The Doctor of Education program combines core required courses, professional seminars, and structured study overseen by a team of advisors. From the date of initial enrollment, the student must complete all the requirements for the degree within a minimum of three years (six semesters - granted only to students who are awarded 18 transfer credits) and a maximum of seven years (14 semesters).

Encompassing four years of professional study, the program is organized into two levels:

Level 1:

Employs core courses, professional seminars, and mentored study to build upon each student's professional interests. Students will complete 18 credits per year in the first level of the program, earning 54 credits total. Throughout this period each student will be assigned two core advisors and work with additional advisors via seminars and core courses. Students will attend five three-day residences annually.

Level 2:

Consists of at least one year and 18 credits of study to encompass the completion of a professional portfolio (documenting attainment of identified program competencies and program rigor) and the approval of an action project-oriented dissertation.
