License Programs

Professional License Programs (MEd, CAGS, MA or MS)

This graduate program is designed for those educators with an Initial Teaching License who are seeking professional licensure in the same field and at the same level. The education department has state-approved programs for professional licensure in Early Childhood, Elementary and Moderate Disabilities (PreK-8). For teachers on the middle/secondary level and Moderate Disabilities (5-12), according to current DESE regulations, teachers earning a master's degree will qualify for professional licensure upon completion of 12 graduate credits in their field of knowledge (e.g. biology) and three years of successful teaching under their initial license. Prerequisites:

Possession of an Initial Teaching License in the field and at the level of licensure sought

  • A completed graduate application packet
  • Two professional references from supervising practitioners or administrators from the educational district/school of employment indicating successful service under the initial license
  • Completion of three years of employment in the role of the license sought. This requirement may be completed prior or concurrent to the approved master's degree.
  • An undergraduate transcript reflecting a minimum GPA of 2.67
