Program for Lifelong Learning

The School of Continuing Education at American International College is offering the Program for Lifelong Learning at the Springfield JCC, designed for anyone who just wants to learn for the joy of learning - no tests, quizzes, papers, or grades!

Upcoming classes

The Constitution: Its Origins and Development - Day and Night
Tuesdays, February 26 - March 19 (4 weeks)
1: 00 - 3:00 p.m.
Tuesdays, April 30 - May 28 (4 weeks, no class May 14)

Location: Springfield JCC

Examine the origins and development of constitutional law with a focus on its impact upon the evolution of U.S. history and society. Class discussion will include key Supreme Court decisions and class participants will examine current debates on the role of the Constitution in our society. Recommended reading for those interested: A History of the Supreme Court by Bernard Schwartz and The Supremes’ Greatest Hits by Michael G. Trachtman.

Instructor: Allen Agnitti has taught history courses since the mid 1990s and has been a professor of history at American International College for over ten years. He earned an M.A. in intellectual history from the University of Sussex/UK and a J.D. from Northeastern University.

Cost: $70 JCC members, $90 general public

Diverse Cultures of the World
Mondays, April 8 - April 29 (4 weeks)
7:00 - 9:00 p.m.
Location: Springfield JCC

In a global world comprised of people with diverse cultural backgrounds, the importance of recognizing cultural awareness, sensitivities and understanding are critical to meaningful relationships and success in every walk of life. Topics to be discussed include culture and its components, verbal and non-verbal global communications, how religions around the world impact culture and a global perspective of the role of women. The course will include lectures, videos and lively class discussions.

Instructor: Gary Lefort is an associate professor in international business for the School of Business at American International College. He earned his B.B.A. from Boston University and his M.B.A. from the University of Massachusetts. He is a published author and has travelled extensively to five continents and thirty-eight countries.

Cost: $70 JCC members, $90 general public
