Social Science

The Social Science and Liberal Studies degree programs have been designed to meet two major objectives: to provide you with a solid introduction to the subject matter of each area, and to allow you (through judicious use of your electives) the flexibility to combine those studies with your vocational or avocational interests.

This joining of diverse fields of study is at the heart of the traditional liberal arts curriculum, which seeks to develop a broad information background, an ability to make sense out of a complex world, and to articulate clearly and succinctly one's thoughts to others, both orally and in written form.

Bachelor of Arts, Social Sciences

This degree is intended for the student who wishes to work within the liberal arts, but with a concentration in the social sciences, i.e., Economics, History, Political Science, Psychology, and Sociology. Training in these social sciences provides broad preparation for a career in these areas or, more generally, in public service. When this program is combined creatively with courses from the business school (using numerous electives), it can provide you with skills attractive to the business community. Certainly, if you wish to pursue a graduate degree in the social sciences, you should consider this program.

In this degree program, you will complete a total of 51 credits of introductory courses in English, the Humanities, Science, the Social Sciences, and Concepts of Business Data Processing. In addition, you will select a multi-discipline major which includes 30 credits from three of the social sciences and complete the program with 39 credits of elective courses.
