Description
Along with the COO, Program Director and Operations Manager, the Deputy Operations Manager is part of the senior management team of WAIC-FM and Hot919.com, which is both a laboratory for broadcast students but also a functional, professional CHR radio station.
- Helps Operations Manager implement all program decisions, including scheduling of shows, talent, ABC news, sportscasts and coordinating with AM Show Producer, Sports Producer on trafficking broadcast blocks.
- Assists with syndicated programming including ABC News, Big Tigger, In The Cypher, as well as underwriting spots (approximately 180 minutes per week).
- Assists with compliance with FCC regulations including maintaining the EBS, Public Service logs and safe operation of the station, day and night.
- Responsible with producers for sports web casts and broadcasts, including maintaining equipment and supplies.
- Helps with training of students including ABC news and board operations.
- On site manager during times when the COO and/or Program Director are not physically present.
- Oversees Weekend DJs and is responsible for broadcast content during their duty shift.
- Develops underwriting contacts.
Assists in the day-to-day operations of Hot 919 - WAIC & Hot919.com:
ABC news, which airs hourly from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, weekdays.
Syndicated programming including Big Tigger (4 hours) and Cypher (4 hours).
Scheduled for board operations. Station has 100 web cast/ sports casts per school year, each of which runs between two and four hours.
Requirements
- Have completed an undergraduate degree in Communication, preferably with a focus on radio, or relevant BA.
- Applied or enrolled in a relevant graduate program.
- Management experience or potential. This position is primarily the manager of a small market commercial radio station.
- Understands FCC rules and regulations.
- Extensive experience on air - ideally hosted their own radio program for at least one year.
- Works well with people. A lot of this job is working one on one with students showing them how to operate complex audio technology.
- Dependability. WAIC / Hot 91.9 operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days of the year.
Salary
20 hours a week at the current campus wage ($8 an hour)
Tuition credit for up to six graduate credits per semester (Fall, Winter session, Spring & Summer.
