Acceptance Criteria

Applications will be evaluated by the tranfer admissions staff on a rolling basis. Once we recieve your application for addmission, we will hold your application until we receive all nessesary credentials. We will notify you if we are missing items required to complete your application. After receiving your application and all supporting materials, you can expect an admissions decision within two to three weeks depending on our volume of applications at the time.

A credit evaluation will follow your acceptance. The credit evaluation will provide you with a list of the courses and credits that will transfer into your program. In most cases, the courses will be listed as their equivalent at AIC.

Criteria for acceptance

All non-health science majors - A 2.0 minimum GPA.

Nursing - Please see this link for the Nursing criteria.

As a prerequisite for our CHE111, a recent (completed within the last five years) high school or college-level chemistry course with a lab is required, and must be completed before acceptance into the program. If the course was completed at the high school level, you must provide evidence of completion.

Physical Therapy - A 3.0 minimum GPA.

Occupational Therapy - A 2.7 GPA is recommended for acceptance into the program. However, applicants who do not meet the GPA requirement will be reviewed for acceptance on a case by case basis.

Credit Policy

The following information is provided to serve as a general guideline to help you determine how many credits may transfer. The courses and credits that do indeed transfer will depend on the course requirements for the program to which you have applied:

  • Up to 60 credits from a two-year institution and up to 75 credits with the completion of an associate's degree. 45 credits must be completed in residence at American International College.
  • Up to 90 credits from a four-year institution. The final 30 credits must be completed in residence at American International College.
  • Courses expire 10 years after completion. Courses older than 10 years may be evaluated by the department.

Unfortunately, we do not award credit for ESL or development courses.

In order to receive credit for completed courses, the most current official transcripts must be submitted to the Office of Admissions.

Grade Requirements

For most of our programs, a minimum grade of a "C" will be accepted. If a student has earned an associate's degree or a bachelor's degree, non-major specific general education requirements and electives with a minimum grade of a "D" can transfer.

Health science program requirements differ from many of our other programs.

Nursing - A grade of "C+" is required for English Composition I and II, all science courses, and all previously completed nursing courses. Nursing courses will be reviewed by the Department of Nursing. Students may be required to complete a challenge examination to receive credit for nursing courses completed elsewhere.

Physical therapy - A grade of "B-" is required for all science courses.
