Acceptance Criteria for Nursing

Admission Policies for Transfer Applicants to the American International College Nursing Program for Fall 2012

Transfer admission to the Nursing program at American International College is highly competitive. The following policies have been established to maintain the high quality of the program and to make clear such policies so that students intending to transfer to the program may plan appropriately.

1. Admitted applicants who will enter with sophomore standing must have completed the following courses with the grades and conditions indicated by the end of the Spring, 2012 semester.

Admission into the sophomore year requires:

The following required courses must have been completed within the past five years. Exceptions to this may be made at the discretion of the Director of the Division of Nursing. A minimum grade of C+ in the following:

  • BIO103 Human Anatomy & Physiology I (4 credits)
  • BIO104 Human Anatomy & Physiology II (4 credits)
  • BIO213 Principles of Microbiology (4 credits)
  • ENG101 English Composition I
  • ENG102 English Composition & Literature
  • SOC101 Introduction to Sociology
  • PSY101 General Psychology I
  • PSY309 Development Psychology

Minimum grade of C+ in the following:

  • Prerequisite chemistry taken within the last five years (either at the high school or college level) by August 15, 2012

2. Completed applications will be reviewed on the following dates:

  • February 15
  • March 15
  • April 15
  • On a date following the completion of the Spring, 2012 semester

3. Applicants to the American International College Division of Nursing who have previously been unsuccessful at either AIC or another Nursing program will not be considered for admission. Students who have earned grades of less than C+ in two or more Nursing courses will be considered unsuccessful.

Additional Important Information

  • All official transcripts of course(s) completed at another college(s) during the Spring, 2012 semester must be received in the Admissions Office by June 1, 2012
  • Admitted students who decline the offer of admission who later choose to enroll in the program must reapply for admission
  • Transfer credit will not be accepted for Nur 103: Pharmacology. This course must be taken concurrently with NUR106: Nursing Fundamentals
  • There is no challenge exam for NUR102: Dosage Calculations. All students are required to take this course
