SUPPORTING YOU
FROM DAY ONE

Amanda Haskins

Degree(s) held and from what institution(s): Bachelors of Arts in English literature and secondary education, Roger Williams University, 2010

Two sentences summarizing you, and your experience at AIC:

I started at AIC right after graduating in 2010. Although I earned my degree in secondary education, I knew that I wanted to end up in higher education working in a college environment. AIC continues to help me develop as a professional and an individual on a regular basis! My future goals include pursuing my master's degree in higher education and planning a trip to London, a city I fell in love with after studying abroad for a semester in the fall of 2008.

What I love about American International College:

One of the aspects of AIC I love the most is that even though we are over 125 years old, things are constantly growing and evolving. AIC finds ways of staying true to our roots of being a strong, supportive, academic environment while always seeking new ways of developing, not only our students, but also our institution at large!

Why I love being an admissions counselor:

My role as an admissions counselor at AIC helps me blend the two things I enjoy most: interacting with high school students and being a part of a college community. I thoroughly enjoy guiding students through the college admissions process and watching them thrive once they join the AIC family as freshmen.

Favorite book:

As a former English major, I feel obliged to choose several:

  • The Hunger Games series
  • The Harry Potter series
  • Jane Eyre

Favorite movie:

Top three, in no particular order:

  • Across the Universe
  • The Breakfast Club
  • The Dark Knight

Favorite musician:

The Beatles!

Favorite vacation destination:

Cape Cod

Something you might not know about me:

I went to Disneyworld for the first time with a group of friends when I was in college, and we were asked to be in one of the stunt shows. It was probably one of the coolest things that has ever happened to me. And I almost fell over the first time I saw Cinderella's Castle. It's a goal of mine to live in it someday.

Favorite part of living in this area:

The Big E!

Favorite quote:

"This above all: To thine own self be true." –Hamlet, William Shakespeare

When I'm not at work, I can be found:

At home in comfy clothes, reading a book

Favorite college memory: Studying abroad in London, visiting several different countries, and seeing over 55 theatre, music, and dance productions. More specifically, visiting Liverpool (home of The Beatles) and going on the Magical Mystery Tour!

Favorite childhood memory:

Traveling all over the U.S. for dance competitions with my teammates

Name a person alive or deceased that you would like to meet and why:

William Shakespeare, but not because I want to praise him for his work (although I do enjoy it). If you have seen the movie Anonymous, you probably know about the conspiracy theories about who Shakespeare REALLY was. It's interesting, and I would love to know the truth!

One thing you could not live without:

Chocolate. Or maybe music. But definitely chocolate.

Favorite hobby:

Dancing, reading, or eating. It depends on my mood!

If I won the lottery I would:

Pay off my college loans! Then probably travel as far as the money would take me.

What's on my playlist:

Here's a little sampling:

  • "We Can Work It Out," The Beatles
  • "Hostage," Jack's Mannequin
  • "Don't Look Back in Anger," Oasis
  • "Last Night," Motion City Soundtrack
  • "No Subject (Come With Me)," Cartel
