What Should I Expect In An Online Course?
It is important to go through and read the course syllabus and any other course information that is provided to you, as it will explain how the course will run and set any expectations the instructor has for you. Although every instructor will teach differently, you can generally expect to:
- Participate in online discussion boards.
- Write papers and submit them as attachments through the assignment in Blackboard.
- Go through the provided content, which can be in the form of documents, articles, videos, audio files, presentations, and web sites.
- Conduct research online.
- Take tests/quizzes online.

Are You Ready For An Online Course?
The answer can vary but indicators for success are:
- Reliable access to a computer and the Internet. Cable & DSL internet service are preferred. Dial-up service can be problematic especially when trying to view videos or access large files.
- Proper time management and study time allocation. Do not procrastinate!!
- General computer skills (Internet browsing/research, word processing, file attachment)
Blackboard Log-in Info
If you are logging in to Blackboard for the first time, you will use your Student ID for your user name and password. Be sure to capitalize the S in the password.
Change Your Password
It is recommended that you change your password after logging in for the first time. You can do this by following the directions included below. Please Note: The maximum number of characters in a password is 32. Passwords are case sensitive.

Email associated with Blackboard
Blackboard allows you to send email to your instructor and other people in your course from within Blackboard without launching an external email client, such as FirstClass, Gmail or Yahoo. Emails sent via Blackboard will be sent from your AIC FirstClass email account and any emails from your instructor or other students will be received in your AIC FirstClass email account as well. Therefore, it is required that you check your AIC FirstClass email account regularly/daily. Note: A copy of any email sent via Blackboard is sent to the sender by default.
My Courses
If you are taking a course ONLINE, your course should be available to you on Blackboard by the end of the first day of class and will be listed under the My Courses section upon logging in. If your course is NOT available to you by then, you need to CONTACT YOUR INSTRUCTOR DIRECTLY and ask them to make it available to you.
Entering Your Course
You can enter a course on Blackboard by clicking on the title of the course listed under the My Courses section. If your course is NOT listed see the MY Courses section above.
Where Can I Find Help?
If you need help with Blackboard you should contact your instructor or visit the Blackboard resources in the student section of FirstClass. There you will find a student Guide, Video Tutorials, Frequently asked Questions, and the ability to ask a question.
