A Shortstop's Short Takes: Fall Prep for Spring Sports

OCTOBER 22, 2013

My name is Haley Marchand. I am a senior shortstop on the AIC softball team. Here is a short glimpse of how we prepare for our upcoming spring season.

As we get ready for our season beginning in March 2014, a lot of our training is held in the weight room. We are no strangers to planks, but as you can see we try and keep a good attitude about it.

Our trainer Maura, from Springfield College, is a huge help to our softball program. Here she is helping one out our teammates use the proper form when using the bar.

Here, the team tries to all get in on the workout together.

Towards the end of our lift, we use the medicine ball as not only an ab workout, but also a team building exercise.

At the end of our team lift, we all meet together to discuss how it went, how we feel, what we liked and what we didn't like.

This is a close-up shot of metal spikes that almost all of us wear. Mizuno is a popular brand of softball cleats for the players nowadays.

Here is a shot of some of the players cheering for one of the girls up to bat. This photo almost makes you feel as though you are actually in the dugout.

Even when it pours, we still try to get in any game that we can to prepare for the spring.

Here is a shot of one of our last fall ball games of the year. This is our alumnae game, where players from previous years come back to AIC to play in a game against the current players. Hopefully this will give you a brief view of what AIC softball fall training is all about. We work extremely hard throughout the whole year to prepare for the spring season.

Haley Marchand is a senior from Swansea, Massachusetts. She provided both the writing and photography for this post, work that also fulfills the requirements for her "Creating Content for the AIC Community" assignment in Digital Photo II.
