Writing Center

The pen is mightier than the sword

Our Mission

The primary goal of the American International College Writing Center is to help students become stronger, more accomplished writers. The Writing Center of American International College is a place where students can develop as independent writers and thinkers. We recognize that student writers come to the center with individual needs and individual writing processes, and we are committed to helping students from all disciplines, majors, and academic backgrounds at any stage of the writing process.

Services

The Writing Center is a free service that offers one-on-one and small group conferences by appointment or on a drop-in basis to students throughout the college. During conferences, students and consultants work together on various aspects of writing: brainstorming, thesis development, outlining, organizing, formatting, structure, and mechanics.

Consultants will guide writers through all stages of the writing process: generating ideas, constructing arguments, and refining drafts.

It is the aim of the Writing Center to help students to learn how to recognize problems and/or errors and how to correct them themselves.

Location

The AIC Writing Center is located in the Center for Academic Success on the lower level of the Shea Library.

Contact Mary Ann Gagen at extension 1441 or Brooke Landry at extension 3104 to schedule an appointment. Appointments are half-hour one-on-one, or 45 minute small group conferences. You may book no more than two back-to-back appointments.
