The Curtis Blake Center was founded in 1969 with the mission of developing and administering programs to enrich the field of learning disabilities. The principle which guides every activity undertaken by the Center is that our programs be of the highest quality possible given the current state of knowledge and research in the field. In 1974, thanks to the generosity of Mr. Curtis L. Blake, co-founder of Friendly Ice Cream Corp., the Center was able to embark on an expansion of programs well beyond its initial diagnostic focus and well beyond the local area of Springfield, MA. Today the Curtis Blake Center employs over 75 full and part-time staff members working in three different locations and responsible for five major service programs meeting the needs of individuals with language learning disabilities.
