Language Power

"Language functions as a powerful interactive tool that allows us to construct and convey meaning in our efforts to communicate."
— Education Today

We describe our curriculum as "driven" by the speech/language staff. Much new research by the National Institutes of Health has provided powerful empirical results on "interventions that work." Because of the casual role that language plays in the development of reading, the expertise of the speech/language pathologist is sought both as consultant and teacher.

Over the past 15 years, this expertise has led the school to develop a unique curriculum using multiple strategies that have proven highly successful. For both the Curtis Blake Day School and the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks the belief in "language as power" guides the curriculum.

"Our son, for the first time, willingly reads and writes to us with pleasure and pride... for the first time I have hope that he will make it and has a bright future ahead of him... you have given me restful nights I have not experienced in 3 years... thank you is too small to measure our gratitude."
