JOB DESCRIPTION:
American International College is a private, coeducational institution of higher education located on a 52 acre campus in Springfield, Massachusetts. Founded in 1885, the College has 3,500 graduate and undergraduate students. The College offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate programs through the School of Arts, Education and Sciences, Business Administration, Health Sciences and Continuing Education. In addition at the graduate level, AIC offers doctoral programs in Education and Physical Therapy. The Assistant Professor is a full time, tenure track position. The program specifically seeks applicants with expertise in pediatrics and/adult physical disabilities practice across the life span. Faculty responsibilities include focused responsibilities in the areas of teaching, scholarship and service as determined by the institution. Primary activities include classroom instruction and direct laboratory experiences to develop clinical competencies in occupational therapy clinical reasoning, assessment and intervention. Other important duties include mentoring graduate students on research projects, advising undergraduate and graduate students, active participation and leadership in committee meetings for the College, the School of Health Sciences and the Division of Occupational Therapy.
Expectations for faculty development includes published and unpublished outcomes related to the scholarship of teaching, application, discovery, integration, teaching and community engagement.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Teach required course load each semester (could include 4-5 courses per semester).
- Advise an average of 25-30 students.
- Scholarship work in area of teaching responsibility/clinical expertise.
- Collaborate with Academic Fieldwork Coordinator to find/supervise Level I Fieldwork experiences.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of evidence-based practice in area of clinical expertise.
- Participate in departmental committees and required activities (e.g. academic awards night; commencement, pinning ceremony; weekend admissions events).
- Participate in college committees as assigned.
- Collaboration with the Program Director on assigned duties involved in maintaining college accreditation (NEASC) and specialized program accreditation (ACOTE).
- Maintenance of professional and specialized credentials.
- Attendance at all required college events (i.e. admissions open houses; academic awards night; graduation).
- Attendance at all required college events (i.e. SHS and departmental faculty meetings).
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Faculty members must have appropriate professional credentials (i.e. OTR, licensed in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
- Faculty members with earned doctoral credentials (i.e. academic or clinical doctorate) are preferred; applicants who are currently enrolled in doctoral degree programs will be given primary consideration and applicants who are actively searching for doctoral programs will be given secondary consideration.
- Faculty members must have a minimum of five (5) years of documented professional experience in their area of teaching responsibility (i.e. mental health, physical disabilities, or pediatrics).
- Prior full-time teaching experience is preferred; adjunct teaching experience will be considered.
- Scholarship experience is preferred (e.g. grant writing, book chapter unpublished, peer- reviewed publications, study/article involving a novel testing practice, action research project to solve a community problem).
- Faculty member must hold a valid driver’s license.
WORK HOURS/SCHEDULE:
The Assistant Professor of Occupational Therapy 11-month, full time, exempt, tenure- track, benefit eligible position.
