Director of Career Services

JOB DESCRIPTION:

American International College is a private, coeducational institution of higher education located on a 52 acre campus in Springfield, Massachusetts. Founded in 1885, the College has 3,500 graduate and undergraduate students. The College offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate programs through the School of Arts, Education and Sciences, Business Administration, Health Sciences and Continuing Education. In addition at the graduate level, AIC offers doctoral programs in Education and Physical Therapy. The mission of the College is to transform student lives through career focused learning, with a strong foundation in the liberal arts, a commitment to serving the community, and a high level of involvement in the global economy.

The Director of Career Services is responsible for all career development programs that serve students and alumni. The director is responsible for recruiting, hiring, training, and supervising career services professional staff. The director plans, organizes, and delivers a variety of career development programs including: on-campus recruiting, career fairs, career development workshops, class presentations and individual career counseling. The director will act as liaison to the deans and directors of academic departments to coordinate quality career services within the college. The director is responsible for managing the department's budget and for ensuring that the department follows college policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Career Counseling

  • Recruit, select, hire, train, supervise and evaluate career services professional and office staff.
  • Create and evaluate departmental goals and objectives. Manage career services budget.
  • Evaluate and purchase career management software and systems.
  • Provide workshops and presentations for students and alumni on topics such as resume writing, graduate school, interviewing, and job search.
  • Collect program and employment data on AIC career services and graduate placement data.
  • Compile annual report.
  • Research and provide information on employment trends, career opportunities, and salaries.
  • Maintain regular contact with the deans and department chairs to develop services.
  • Provides individual and group counseling in career related areas.

Employer Relations

  • Develop relationships with regional and national organizations in order to increase employment and internship opportunities for AIC students, graduates, and alumni.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with employers in order to understand what employers want in applicants.
  • Create and implement programs to support employer needs to help prepare students for employment.
  • Schedule and provide support for on-campus interviews with employers.
  • Direct and supervise staff to organize and implement career fairs and on-campus recruiting.
  • Chair members of Career Services Advisory Board.

Other

  • Maintain cooperative relationships with Alumni Affairs and the Development Office.
  • Serve on university committees and boards as appointed.
  • Participate in professional career development organizations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The qualified candidate will have a minimum of a Master's Degree in Career Counseling, Psychology or Education; a minimum of two (2) years' experience in a postsecondary education setting; a minimum two (2) years' experience advising or counseling students on career related matters; and excellent oral and written communication skills.

WORK HOURS/SCHEDULE:

The Director of Career Services is a full time, exempt position limited to 35 hour per week. Review of application will begin immediately. This is a benefit eligible position. Normal working hours are 8:30 - 4:30 with hours flexible to the needs of the department.
