Veterans receiving their degrees at American International College were honored at a special ceremony. The 2013 Admiral Hines Alumni Veterans Ribbon Ceremony was held Wednesday, April 17 in the International Room of Lee Hall.
This year's ribbon ceremony honored eight graduating seniors. Among the students recognized were Todd Brower, Crystal Lamb and Sean Garcia of Springfield; Louis Faivre and Amber Dutton of Chicopee; Michale Barclay of Palmer; David Babineau of Lynn; and Luis Gomez of East Windsor, Conn.
Brower, an Army Infantry Paratrooper, will receive his bachelorís degree in psychology. Lamb served in the Air Force, and will receive her bachelorís degree in management; Garcia, a Marine veteran, will receive a bachelor of science in nursing degree; Dutton served in the Air Force and will receive her bachelor of science in nursing degree; Faivre served in the Air Force and will receive a bachelorís degree in psychology; Barclay, an Army Infantryman, will receive a bachelorís degree in liberal arts; Babineau served in the Marines and will receive his masterís degree in school administration; and Gomez, an Army veteran, will receive his bachelorís degree in management and technology.
Diane Furtek, director of the AIC Veterans' Resource Center, said the event was a way to thank the veterans for their service to the country, and to congratulate them on their academic success. "The college has been very active in providing a variety of campus services for returning veterans, and having community representatives available to discuss resources such as health care, career development, academic assistance, financial aid, personal wellness, the GI Bill, disability support and more. We want veterans to feel at home here at AIC," she said.
Several AIC veterans were on hand for the ceremony including, Edward Berucki, class of Ď54, one of the last surviving members of the attack on Pearl Harbor; Kenneth Geromini, class of í68; í72; Robert Veideman, class of '60. Henry Benjamin, class of '59, '62, and D. Irving Conrad, former dean of administrative services.
The Veteran's Alumni Committee created this event to honor graduating seniors who have served or are currently serving for their country. Admiral John F. Hines, served as the eighth president of American International College from 1953Ė1969.
