AIC professor Toni Spinelli Nannen was interviewed on the TV-22 program In Focus about extending the school day
The state announced it would be entering into a pilot program that extends the school year by 300 hours for students in two Massachusetts communities, Fall River and Lawrence. If the program proves successful in closing achievement gaps, it's something all students in Massachusetts could soon have to adjust to.
Toni Spinelli-Nannen, an education professor at American International College, said while a longer day is a good idea, she cautioned "programs need to be planned and research done before implementing the plan. We have to be concerned not only with better test scores, but we need to be concerned about better learning. If we do that, students will have better test scores," she said.
