Degree Requirements

Studying history is exciting in itself and offers pure enjoyment through the love of reading history. But it entails other intellectual aims as well (elaborated in our "Goals for Students' Scholarly Development"). The History program is designed also to teach you professional historical methodology and to equip you with a general body of knowledge. Many of our students are secondary education majors and so we give particular attention to preparing the student for a broad range of teaching competencies. However, there is also opportunity to engage in more specialized and research-oriented studies.

In all cases, we recommend that you consult with the history departmental chair as early in your studies as possible in order to plan the best program to meet you educational and professional goals.

The following requirements apply to students entering AIC in or after Fall 2005.
