Degree Requirements

BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN OCCUPATIONAL SCIENCE/ MASTER OF SCIENCE IN OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY

Students may enter the Program through one of two educational tracks. Undergraduate students enter the Program through Track One and graduate students enter the Program through Track Two (see Academics/Graduate/Health Sciences/Occupational Therapy). Undergraduate students entering the combined BSOS/MSOT Program through Track One have an accelerated option and a non-accelerated option for completing his/her degree.

TRACK ONE: Bachelor of Science in Occupational Science /Master of Science in Occupational Therapy (BSOS/MSOT)

  1. Bachelor of Science Degree in Occupational Science (122 credit hours)
  2. Master of Science Degree in Occupational Therapy (34 credit hours)
  3. Students pursuing an MSOT Degree must first complete the requirements for the BSOS degree, and meet the grade and GPA requirements for the Occupational Therapy Program. To maintain satisfactory standing in the Occupational Therapy Program, the following are required: a C grade in required pre-professional and professional courses; a 2.33 cumulative grade point average during the pre-professional phase; a 2.75 cumulative grade point average during the professional phase; a Pass in Level II Fieldwork (OTR 896 & 897); and a B- grade and a 3.0 cumulative grade point average during the graduate phase.

    The combined BSOS/MSOT requirements include general education, prerequisite, and pre-professional requirements (81 credits):

    1. In the accelerated program option, these requirements are completed in two years (including summers);
    2. In the non-accelerated program option, these requirements are completed in three years; and
    3. professional coursework in three consecutive semesters (41 credits); and
    4. graduate coursework (including fieldwork) in three consecutive semesters (34 credits).

      34. General education requirements: ENG 101 and 102; Literature (3 credits); Humanities (6 credits); and Computer Literacy (3 credits). Note: PSY 101, SOC 101, and PSY 304 and 309 fulfill the Social Sciences requirement; PHY 116, BIO 103 and OTR 222 fulfill the Scientific Awareness requirement; and MAT 205 fulfills the Quantitative Reasoning requirement. A minimum of a C- Grade must be earned in all major requirements without the OTR designation.

        Occupational Science is a major field of study that can be selected by students as a terminal baccalaureate degree. A minor in Occupational Science is also available. Courses above with an asterisk * designate course options to complete a minor in occupational science.
