Governor helps kick off D2 Tournament; attends event for AIC graduate

SPRINGFIELD-Governor Deval Patrick helped kick off the 2008 NCAA Division II Men’s Basketball Championship in Springfield recently. After stopping at AIC to campaign for Barack Obama, the Governor headed down to the Basketball Hall of Fame.

Governor Patrick was presented with the first two tickets to the tournament which will be held March 26-29 at the MassMutual Center.

American International College will again serve as the host institution for the tournament, which will feature a free and expanded FanFest at the MassMutual Center, Championship-week events at various downtown businesses, an All-Star game, youth clinic and more. There will also be a Post-Game Concert on Saturday, March 29 featuring recording artists, "The Last Goodnight."

While at the Hall of Fame, the Governor also attended a fundraiser for State Representative Angelo Puppolo, a 1997 graduate of AIC.

In just his first year at the State House, Puppolo was appointed to three key Joint Legislative Committees, including the powerful Committee on Telecommunications, Utilities and Energy; the Committee on Health Care Financing; and the Committee on Tourism, Arts and Cultural Development. Additionally, he was appointed to the Special Commission to End Homelessness.
