High school students become AIC students for a day

SPRINGFIELD--While some high school students were sitting around watching television or playing video games during their February vacation, more than 150 students got a head start on college. The students and their parents attended College for a Day at American International College.

Most college-bound freshmen don't have the opportunity to meet with the faculty or observe a class before they enroll in the college they choose to attend. That's where College for a Day comes in. The three-day program is aimed at helping prospective college students learn what a day in college is really like.

The three-day event began on Tuesday, February 20 with Business, Criminal Justice, Psychology and Communication majors. Thursday, February 21 the College welcomed Health Science majors, including Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Nursing. Students had the chance to visit the AIC Nursing Lab, as well as participate in Occupational and Physical Therapy labs.

Finally, Friday, February 22, there will be the Education, Arts and Sciences, and Pre-Professional majors.

The program runs from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. Following an introductory session and greetings from the Admissions staff, students attend classes in Courniotes Hall and Amaron Hall.

The annual event gives prospective students the opportunity to attend actual classes with current AIC students, meet with faculty members from the departments of their intended major, dine for lunch in the Dining Commons and tour the campus with AIC Student Ambassadors.

Attending family members have a chance to meet with department representatives from athletics, financial aid, student activities, alumni relations and admissions. This program is open to all high school juniors and seniors.
