Graduate Assistant, Residence Life Office/Resident Director
Description: twelve-month, live-in, graduate student position responsible for the day to day management and administration of a co-educational first-year student residence hall. Responsibilities include coordinating R.A. duty schedules, counseling residents, crisis intervention, referrals, community development, and the management of student employment areas.
Qualifications: Experience in leadership of a residence hall, knowledge of student development theories, demonstrated ability in management of day-to-day routine operations, ability to relate to people, and motivation to inspire others to success. Bachelor’s degree required, masters level student pursuing a graduate degree at a CCGS institution preferred. The appointed individual cannot hold full-time employment outside of
American International College.
Responsibilities (Supervision):
- Select, train, evaluate and supervise 4-8 Resident Advisors.
- Assist in the planning of RA programs and staff development.
- Hold weekly meetings with Resident Advisors from assigned area.
- Monitor and assess RA programming requirements.
- Supervise front desk employees.
- Coordinate and post RA duty schedule and front desk schedule.
Responsibilities (Residence Hall Community):
Adjudicate residence hall incidents.
- Coordinate of fire safety inspections and routine fire evacuations.
- Coordinate of room changes.
- Serve as a motivator, resource agent, and mentor to both staff and residents.
- Provide living conditions which foster a sense of community and mutual respect.
- Interpret and uphold college and residence hall policies.
- Provide para-counseling advice and referrals (academic and personal).
- Be available for emergency or crisis situations.
- Maintain security of the building though presence, visibility, and approachability.
- File necessary paperwork and reports (incident, maintenance, room condition, programming, etc.).
- Perform hall opening/closing procedures as instructed by the Director of Residence Life including attending beginning of the semester floor meetings.
- Serve as part of the Senior Staff Duty Schedule.
- Attend weekly staff meetings with Director of Residence Life.
- Other duties as assigned.
Compensation:
One Bedroom Apartment, Partial Meal Plan, Student Health Insurance, Tuition waiver (2 courses per semester at AIC only), Monthly Stipend.
