SPRINGFIELD--AIC volunteers took to the streets of Springfield as part of the Great American Cleanup, the country's largest annual cleanup, beautification and community improvement program.
The Springfield component of the national campaign took place on Saturday May 3 from 8:00 a.m. to noon.
Keep Springfield Beautiful is now in its second year of operation since re-establishing Springfield's affiliation with Keep America Beautiful.
George Morgan, Massachusetts Campus Compact, Americorps*VISTA Community Service Coordinator, said the AIC contigent did a great job. "I'd like to say thank's to all of you who came out this morning to clean up Springfield. As a whole, we cleaned 16 streets and one Public Park. Your involvement is greatly appreciated and your leadership will not be forgotten.ast year's cleanup was a great success with 170 tons of litter removed from the city’s streets and empty lots."
AIC has been a major sponsor of Keep Springfield Beautiful, providing meeting space and marketing services, including the design of a logo, business cards and letterhead.
Some of the AIC groups participating in this year's cleanup effort included Student Government, Student Activities, Sophomore Class International Club, Dance Team, Sophomore Class, Eternal Knights, Field Hockey, Men's Soccer, Women's Soccer, Lacrosse, Best Buddies and Mens Basketball.
