FAQ

**HOW MANY CREDITS ARE INVOLVED?

The M.A. in HRD consists of 36 credit hours. The program is designed to be taken in four consecutive semesters. The first two semesters consist of 12 credit hours each, the third semester consists of 9 credit hours and the final semester consists of a 3 credit hour project and seminar.

**HOW ARE CLASSES SCHEDULED?

The first three semesters have a similar schedule: A three day (Friday-Sunday) workshop, approximately eleven evening class meetings (4 p.m. – 10p.m., once a week), two half-day Saturday meetings and another three day (Friday –Sunday) workshop at the end of the semester. The final semester includes only the once a week evening meetings. Individual consultations are easily scheduled between classes.

**HOW IS THE CURRICULUM MANAGED TO ACCOMMODATE SUCH A SCHEDULE?

All the content is fully integrated. The skills and supportive knowledge are systematic and developmental, so what is presented during one class (and one semester) will be used during the next class (and semester). Each semester’s coursework focuses on a specific group of HRD functions and skills. Developmentally, the program moves from:

Semester I:

Interpersonal Processing Skills to facilitate communication and diagnosis of individual performer’s levels of functioning.

Planning Skills for decision-making, program development and program implementation leading to productive action, based on principles of performance development.

Semester II:

Productive Thinking Skills, emphasizing a systems thinking approach to analyzing input received and synthesizing relevant personalized goals for people and organizations in the form of action-oriented operating principles.

Instructional Systems Design (from content development and diagnosis skills to design and delivery of training) to deliver the content and skills needed to act upon goals of developing new sources of capital value.

Semester III:

Comprehensive Intervention Design, incorporating previously learned skills to design, implement, and manage organizational change and the development of human resources. Includes consideration of leadership skills congruent with the requirements of change.

Semester IV:

Integrative Productivity Project: A personalized application of HRD s and skills to a performance improvement/productivity issue in the student’s workplace. Begun at the end of Semester III, the project is completed during the following 12 weeks.

*The program is also designed so that students can immediately start applying new learning to their work and home settings.

**WHAT IS THE COST OF THE PROGRAM?

For current information on tuition costs, please contact the Business Office (413-205-3254). They can provide you with the cost per credit hour, any changes in tuition costs, etc.

**WHAT ABOUT FINANCIAL AID?

AIC offers a partial payment plan, which spreads tuition charges over several payments during the semester. This can be arranged with the Business Office. Financial Aid for graduate students is usually in the form of bank loans. The Financial Aid Office (413-205-3259) will provide details about these and any other possible sources of aid.

**DO YOU ACCEPT TRANSFER CREDITS?

Yes, up to 9 credit hours, if the coursework matches content covered in the program. However, due to the integrated nature of the coursework, the student who is granted transfer credit still attends all the scheduled classes. Official transcripts must be provided as proof of this coursework.

**IS IT POSSIBLE TO ENROLL FOR FEWER THAN 12 CREDITS PER SEMESTER?

Some students have done so, but it is not the best approach. We will explore the options with the student and make decisions based on each individual situation.
