The Bachelor of Science in Nursing is conferred upon students who have satisfactorily completed 121 semester hours of prescribed academic work. The four-year undergraduate nursing program accepts candidates for freshman admission in September and January. Transfer applicants are accepted on a space-available basis for both the fall and spring semesters.

Candidates for admission to the B.S.N. program must have completed the minimum 16 college preparatory units outlined in the admission requirements, but should recognize that special emphasis will be placed on mathematics and science preparation, with preference given to a laboratory science course in chemistry.

Students who have no previous college or nursing study are admitted as full-time first year students into the four-year program. Registered nurse students who have completed diploma or associate degree programs are admitted as transfer students with advanced standing. Credits may be received for selected nursing courses through successful completion of challenge examinations or through articulation agreements. Prospective students are expected to contact the Director of the Nursing Division to discuss program requirements.

GRADUATE PROGRAM

The Master of Science in Nursing advances knowledge through two essential program concentrations: Nursing Administration which will enable the graduate to lead health care systems and Nursing Educator which will prepare the graduate to educate tomorrow's nurses. Master's students in Nursing Administration develop competencies in management to effect system change and to exert leadership in administration. Master's students in the Nursing Educator program develop future nurse professionals through the nursing professoriate.

The dual goals of the graduate program at American International College are: to prepare dynamic nurse educators and executives who practice in accordance with established standards of professional nursing; and to prepare nurse educators and executives committed to creating, influencing, and leading the future of nursing and health care systems.
