Academic Program / Degree Requirements

This department offers the major and minor in Spanish plus coursework in French, Chinese, and American Sign Language. Students intending to teach Spanish in secondary schools must have two majors (Spanish and secondary education) and work with advisors in each field.

In all cases, we recommend that you consult with the Spanish departmental chair as early in your studies as possible in order to plan out the best yet most efficient program for you!

Requirements for Majoring in Spanish:

In addition to the degree requirements that everyone has to fulfill for a B.A. degree, to major in Spanish means that you'll need to complete the following specific demands:

Secondary education majors have additional requirements for the education degree. You will need to consult with both your education advisor and your Spanish advisor. These additional requirements will usually be fulfilled with "elective" credits. In other words, the total number of credit hours for the degree will typically be the same as for a non-education major.

Requirements for Minoring in Spanish:
