Mathematics

The department offers the major and minor in Mathematics in which the student has the flexibility to choose courses appropriate to preparation for careers in industry, teaching, or business, or graduate studies where additional specialization in fields such as statistics or operations research, for example, increases the student's options. Mathematics majors are encouraged also to complete a major or minor in a related field. Students who intend to teach mathematics at the middle school level or at the secondary school level must complete a second major in Secondary Education. Students considering graduate work in Mathematics should complete at least one year of college physics. They should also develop a working knowledge of French.
