Director's Welcome

The Division of Occupational Therapy welcomes your interest in our entry-level Master's Degree Program (BSOS/MSOT), and a career in occupational therapy!

As the Director of the Occupational Therapy Program and a practicing therapist for 25 years, I can assure you that occupational therapy is a very rewarding and exciting profession. Occupational therapists make a difference in the lives of children, adults, and elders whose participation in daily living, work, and recreation or leisure activities has become limited due to physical diseases or mental health problems, injuries, birth defects, social deprivation, poverty or the aging process. If you want to be part of the solution for improving the human condition, one person at a time, then the Occupational Therapy Program at AIC is for you!

The U.S. Department of Labor is projecting that employment of occupational therapists (OT's) will increase faster than average through the year 2008. According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook(2000), OT's are increasingly taking on supervisory and administrative roles in addition to clinical roles in response to market demand. Occupational therapy's transition to the Master's Degree for entry into the profession, places it on the cutting edge of professional role advancement and employment potential.

As a student in our accredited Program you will contribute to the legacy of caring that is a hallmark of occupational therapy. The OT Program provides an outstanding educational experience in a small college atmosphere. Our students enjoy individualized guidance from experienced faculty advisors, and benefit from a highly supportive learning environment that offers exceptional classroom and laboratory facilities.

I hope that you will consider visiting American International College and touring Courniotes Hall, which is home to the Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy and Nursing Programs. I appreciate your interest in taking advantage of the exciting health care opportunities available to occupational therapists, and I hope that you will consider AIC's Occupational Therapy Program among your top choices.
