The Division of Occupational Therapy welcomes your interest in our entry-level Master's Degree Program (MSOT), and a career in occupational therapy.
As the Director of the Occupational Therapy Program and a practicing therapist for 25 years, I can assure you that occupational therapy is a very rewarding and exciting profession. If you want to be part of the solution for improving the human condition, one person at a time, then the Occupational Therapy Program at AIC is for you!
You can be assured that the Occupational Therapy Program will take your education PERSONALLY. Our students enjoy individualized guidance from experienced faculty advisors, and benefit from a highly supportive learning environment that offers exceptional classroom and laboratory facilities. As a student in our accredited Program you will contribute to the legacy of caring that is a hallmark of occupational therapy.
Occupational therapy's transition to the Master's Degree for entry into the profession, places it on the cutting edge of professional advancement and employment potential. The U.S. Department of Labor is projecting that employment of occupational therapists (OT's) will increase by 23% through 2016. According to the U.S. News and World Report, OT is on the list of the 31 best careers of 2008. It also listed OT consultant as a "smart specialty." U.S. News described the job of Occupational Therapist as a "challenging career that's best for creative, practical people who find satisfaction in small successes." OT's are increasingly assuming supervisory/administrative roles in addition to clinical roles in response to market demand. As leaders in health care, occupational therapists have never been in a more enviable position to advance their professional prestige and increase their earning power in a lucrative job market.
I hope that you will consider visiting American International College and touring Courniotes Hall which is home to the Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy and Nursing Programs. I appreciate your interest in taking advantage of the exciting employment and career opportunities available to occupational therapists, and I hope that you will consider AIC's Occupational Therapy Program among your top academic choices. The pass rate for our students taking the national certification examination for the first time is 88%. The job placement rate for our graduates during that same period is 100%.
