Mission
The major goals for teacher education are to develop teachers who can:
- Demonstrate an understanding of the historical, philosophical, psychological and intellectual foundations of education
- Develop the ability to identify, evaluate, and incorporate the major theoretical postures into their evolving teaching styles
- Demonstrate that they understand the concepts of human learning and their implications for the teaching-learning process
- Demonstrate subject matter proficiency and the ability to teach it effectively
- Demonstrate their grasp of teaching methods and techniques in order to analyze learning needs and provide for them
- Demonstrate their understanding of the concepts of individual student needs
- Demonstrate the ability to self-evaluate, be flexible, and be willing to try new methods, techniques and approaches
- Demonstrate the ability to function as members of an educational team
- Demonstrate an understanding of the guiding principles and basic tenets of the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks
- Present as evidence of a culminating experience a master portfolio which demonstrates readiness to assume the full role of a reflective practitioner
