Professor Thomas Maulucci is the chair of the History Department. As an undergraduate at Canisius College he majored in international relations and economics. He earned a Ph.D. in History at Yale University. Moreover, after earning his BA he was a Fulbright Scholar for two semesters in Saarbrücken, Germany, and did much of his dissertation research as a German Education Exchange Service Scholar in Bonn. His most recent position before coming to AIC was at SUNY Fredonia. His research interests include the Cold War and the Federal Republic of Germany, and he has published several articles on these topics. A volume co-edited with Detlef Junker and entitled GIs in Germany: The History of the American Military Presence 1945-2000 is forthcoming in the series Publications of the German Historical Association with Cambridge University Press. He also worked on the volume 100 Years of Heroin, edited by David F. Musto with Pamela Korsmeyer and Thomas W. Maulucci, Jr. (Westport, CT: Auburn House, 2002).

Professor Marc Ferguson (Adjunct) joined our department in fall 2003. His bachelor's degree in history was earned at the University of California at Berkeley and his master's degree at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. He has extensive teaching experience at both high school and university levels, including a year working with students in Prague, Czechoslovakia. For the most recent six years, he has been teaching a variety of world history, Western civilization, and U.S. history courses at the University of Massachusetts as well as Holyoke Community College. His research interests concern modern European intellectual history, and in enhancing students' learning and career development he draws upon his previous career as a professional mental health practitioner.

Professor Allen Agnitti, J.D. (Adjunct), teaches some of our evening courses. He holds a B.A. degree in history from Bates College and an M.A. degree in intellectual history from the University of Sussex, England, as well as his J.D. degree from Northeastern University School of Law. A native of this community, he has been teaching for several years at Springfield area colleges. Previously he taught at the Bronx Community College (CUNY) and, board certified in secondary education, in New York City high schools. He has also worked extensively as an attorney, including for the National Consumer Law Center, Boston; the Legal Aid Society, NYC; and as a law clerk for various courts and institutions.

Professor D. Irving Conrad (Adjunct), formerly AIC's Dean of Administrative Services, has taught history courses here for many years and brings a wealth of personal experiences to the classroom. He holds bachelor's and master's degrees from Springfield College. A native Canadian, he offers the history of Canada, British history, and the history of warfare as well as other special topic courses.

Dr. Lawrence Habermehl, chair of the department of philosophy, offers a course that is regularly cross-listed with History: History of Western Philosophy. His publications include The Counterfeit Wisdom of Shallow Minds: A Critique of Some Leading Offenders of the 1980s.

Dr. Julie Walsh, of the department of political sciences, teaches a sequence of courses on the history of political thought, which are regularly cross-listed with History. A scholar of American politics, her publications include The Intellectual Origins of Mass Parties and Mass Schools in the Jacksonian Era.
