School Administrator (M.Ed., C.A.G.S.)
Program Objectives
To prepare education personnel for administrative leadership positions in the public schools. Four major elements are included in the program:
- Foundation Theory - To establish the philosophical, sociological, historical, and psychological underpinnings of education.
- Administration - To provide a basis for understanding leadership, operational processes and development of education.
- Supervision - To equip and prepare the leader in supervision, evaluation and curriculum areas.
- Field Experience - To prepare for entry into the field through on-site observations and practicum placement in the schools.
Prerequisites
- Possession of an appropriate initial teaching license and three years of employment under the prerequisite license, or professional experience (as per license-specific requirements).
- Minimum GPA of 2.67 in undergraduate training or a GPA of 3.0 in graduate programming.
- Personal interview is required of all candidates All candidates seeking Mass.
- Passing score on the Communication and Literacy Skills Test (MTEL).

Field Experiences
- EDC 509 - Field Experiences in Administration (3 Credits) Upon completion of fifteen credit hours in the program, candidates are teamed with practitioners in the field. Activities include observation and assisting in administrative procedure. One hundred twenty five (125) clock hours in monitored field-based training is required.
- EDC 420 - Practicum in Administration (6 Credits). This experience provides for the exercising of a variety of administrative tasks, on-site, in the role of the license sought. Three hundred (300) clock hours of monitored field-based practice is required.
These two field experiences are culminating activities that must be completed for degree requirements. See your advisor for further details.
Thirty-three semester hours are required for degree completion.
There is a 10 year limit for completion of degree requirements including transfer courses requested.
