Secondary and Middle School Education (M.Ed.)
Program Objectives
This program is designed for those possessing a bachelor's degree and wishing to teach students in grades 5-8 or 8-12.
Prerequisites
- An earned Bachelor's degree.
- Minimum cumulative average of 2.67 in the Baccalaureate Degree Program.
- Introduction to Psychology, and a course in Adolescent/Developmental or an appropriate Psychology.
- Completed graduate admission application and two letters of reference.
- Personal interview and evaluation of previous coursework.
- All graduate students are required to demonstrate successful completion and a passing score on the Communication and Literacy section of the MTEL, or comparable teacher exam, before official acceptance. The subject area test must be completed prior to student teaching.

- EDC 520* - Reading and Communication in the Secondary and Middle Schools (3
Credits)
- EDC 438F - Student Teaching:Secondary (6 Credits)
- EDC 438G - Student Teaching: Middle (6 Credits)
- EDC 446 - Education Seminar (1-4 Credits)
* Field Experience Required
With the above, the candidate must successfully complete a program
portfolio to be eligible for the Initial Level of teacher licensure in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Additional Courses Required for Master's Degree (9 Credits)
