Mission Statement
In keeping with the College's mission as a comprehensive college, the mission of the Occupational Therapy Program is to provide a socially relevant, high quality, challenging, professional education. We are committed to cultural diversity, gender equality and accessibility for individuals with disabilities. Our urban environment provides the setting for multi-cultural integration, and our academic program fosters intellectual diversity by respecting the varied talents and experiences of each individual student. The Program is committed to advancing the academic discipline and applied profession of occupational therapy, and to shaping a unique professional identity for our students by:
- maintaining an advanced level of educational opportunity that is reflected in the expectation for exceptional achievement, the advanced nature of the coursework, and the high quality of the faculty who teach and mentor undergraduate and graduate students; and
- implementing a thoughtfully planned, in-depth study of occupational science/occupational therapy in which academics and fieldwork are closely integrated; and
- promoting research and scholarship by requiring students to become critical consumers of peer-reviewed journals and on-line publications, government publications, and other professional scholarly media related to the discipline and applied profession of therapy; and
- providing a qualified graduate faculty who: possess advanced academic credentials and experience in teaching; engage in research activities or scholarly endeavors that are recognized by the discipline and applied profession of occupational therapy; and demonstrate mentoring abilities; and
- fostering a highly creative and energized academic environment in which students experience professional socialization in the clinical and academic aspects of occupational therapy.
