Mission Statement
In keeping with AIC's mission, the mission of the Occupational Therapy Program is to provide a high quality, challenging professional graduate education. We are committed to cultural diversity, gender equality and accessibility for individuals with disabilities. Our urban environment provides the setting for multi-cultural integration, and our academic program fosters
intellectual diversity by respecting the varied talents and experiences of each
individual student. The Program is committed to advancing the
discipline and applied profession of occupational therapy, and shaping a unique
professional identity for our students by:
- maintaining an advanced level of educational opportunity that is reflected in high standards for student achievement, the requirement for professional quality reasoning and writing, and expectations for student learning that is theory driven and evidenced-based;
- implementing a thoughtfully planned, in-depth study of occupational science/occupational therapy in which academics and fieldwork are closely integrated; and
- promoting research and scholarship by requiring students to
become critical consumers of peer-reviewed journals and on-line publications, AOTA official documents, proceedings of major conferences, government publications, and other
scholarly media pertinent to health care and occupational therapy; and
- providing a qualified graduate faculty who possess academic preparation and experience in teaching, mentoring, and scholarship that is recognized by the academic culture in higher education, and the professional culture of occupational therapy; and
- fostering a creative and progressive interdisciplinary academic environment in which students experience professional socialization to the beliefs, values and norms that characterize occupational therapy.
