Why Major in Applied Laboratory Science at AIC?

Applied Laboratory Science majors at American International College will develop a broad-based overview of workforce options and emphasizes development of laboratory skills and safety, instrument and scientific techniques proficiency, critical thinking, and troubleshooting of experimental procedures and outcomes.

According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook, the job outlook for bachelor-degree prepared technicians for 2022-2032 is faster than average: biological technicians are projected to grow 5%, forensic technicians by 13%, and chemical technicians by 3%.

  • Teaching assistant opportunities: Guide the learning process as a junior or senior, engaging new students in psychology topics.
  • Jump-start your graduate education: Eligible seniors can take one to two graduate-level courses at the undergraduate rate. As you begin a master’s degree at AIC, your motivation will pay off in terms of time and cost savings.

AIC’s Bachelor of Science in Applied Laboratory Science program prepares you for a broad array of career paths based on your passions and personal aspirations.

  • Perform a variety of laboratory techniques to safely conduct experiments and procedures
  • Apply fundamental principles of biology and chemistry to solve problems, interpret data, and explain outcomes
  • Develop and utilize effective computer, written, and oral communication skills in a scientific setting
  • Use analytical and critical thinking to troubleshoot experimental protocols

Scholarships

Grants and scholarships are awarded based on both need and merit.

AIC’s transfer partnerships with Holyoke Community College (HCC) and Springfield Technical Community College (STCC) provide an uninterrupted path from community college to our bachelor’s in Applied Laboratory Science program, as well as a $4,000 per year joint admissions scholarship.
