Welcome to the AIC Hives Communities, a platform designed for students who are eager to explore various academic disciplines before deciding on a major. This approach allows students to experience a range of academic environments through contextualized APEX courses, programming, and career exploration akin to a bee sampling different flowers, before settling on a specific field of study. Rather than being what traditionally has been called the undeclared or undecided major, students will select a Hive that aligns with multiple programs in a particular area of study. Students will find themselves interacting with faculty and students that have traits that are similar and create a sense of belonging.
As a new student, you can delve into the diverse communities within AIC. Each community offers a unique combination of courses, experiences, and career pathways, enabling you to identify your areas of interest. Although you may begin your journey by exploring various fields, we recommend choosing a specific major by the end of your first year to streamline your academic trajectory.
Our academic advisors are available to guide you through the exploration process. They will assist you in understanding the offerings of different communities and aligning your interests with potential pathways. Consider them as your mentors, directing you towards a major that aligns with your strengths and aspirations.
Exploring AIC’s academic communities allows you to:
Discover Your Passion: By experiencing various communities, you can identify your academic passion and interests.
Broaden Your Horizons: Immersion in various communities provides a wider perspective on different fields of study and potential career paths.
Build a Foundation: During your exploration, you will acquire foundational knowledge and skills that will serve as a base for your academic journey.
Connect with Peers: Being part of a community connects you with like-minded students and fosters a sense of camaraderie as you navigate your academic exploration together.
While the exploration phase is crucial for identifying your academic niche, we encourage you to select a specific major by the end of your first year. This decision will help you focus your studies, align your academic goals, and set you on a clear pathway towards your future career.
We encourage you to embrace the journey of exploration within AIC’s academic communities. Engage with your peers, and let the community guide you towards a major that resonates with your passions and aspirations. Remember, your unique talents and interests will shape your academic path and lead you towards a fulfilling and successful future.
