International students have been a crucial part of the American International College community since its founding in 1885, when the College opened its doors to provide access to French Canadian immigrants seeking higher education.
As an international student at AIC, you will be joining a highly diverse group of students representing many countries and locations around the globe. During your time here you will engage in opportunities to expand your thoughts and ideas. And of course, you will gain first-hand experience with American culture by making life-long friendships, tasting new foods, and enjoying everything America has to offer.
The decision to study in a foreign country can be exhilarating as well as challenging. Transitioning to a new culture and an unfamiliar environment can also be intimidating. Our advisors in the Office of International Student Life are here to help you adjust to your new academic environment and make you feel more comfortable and confident once you arrive on campus. We are here to talk to you about immigration/visa concerns, personal concerns, academic and work options, and how to get settled here in the city of Springfield, Massachusetts. Parents, know your student will be in good hands once they arrive on campus.
International Admissions Requirements
English Proficiency
AIC requires all international students whose primary language is not English to provide proof of English proficiency. Applicants may demonstrate English proficiency through one of the following options. Official test scores must be sent directly from the testing organization to admissions@aic.edu.
Prospective students may submit one of the following:
- TOEFL: Minimum score of 72 on the internet-based test (iBT), with no individual section score below 18.
- Duolingo English Test (DET): Minimum score of 105.
- IELTS: Minimum overall score of 6.5, with no individual band score below 6.0.
- SAT: Minimum 500 on the Evidence-Based Reading and Writing section.
- ACT: Minimum 37 combined score in English and Reading.
- PAA (Prueba de Aptitud Académica): Minimum 500 on the English component.
- PTE Academic (Pearson Test of English Academic): Minimum score of 59–75.
Secondary School and Post-secondary Transcripts
AIC requires official transcripts for each year of secondary (high school) education, as well as transcripts for all postsecondary education, including courses completed at colleges and universities.
Transcripts that are not in English or that were completed outside of the United States require a course-by-course credential evaluation.
AIC accepts course-by-course evaluations from active members of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) or from the Center for Educational Documentation (CED).
All credential evaluations must be submitted directly to AIC from the evaluation service.
