Finding Strength in Each Other at AIC: Victoria Mendez ’27 and Yeudy Ramirez ’26

When Victoria Mendez ’26, a General Business major with a minor in Finance, and Yeudy Ramirez ’26, an Exercise Science major, first crossed paths during the fall 2023 semester, something clicked. What began as casual conversations around campus quickly turned into something more meaningful.

“From the start, our conversations felt natural,” they shared. “We enjoyed getting to know one another, which helped build a strong connection early on.”

A Championship Moment to Remember

Among their many memories at American International College, one stands above the rest: celebrating the women’s volleyball 2024 championship together.

In the moments after the final point, the two embraced, sharing in the excitement and pride of the achievement. “Being able to celebrate such a meaningful accomplishment side by side made the moment even more memorable for us,” they reflected.

It was a powerful reminder of how deeply intertwined their academic, athletic, and personal journeys had become.

Growth Individually and Together

AIC has shaped both Victoria and Yeudy in profound ways. Individually, they credit the College with helping them grow socially and professionally. They learned how to communicate effectively, manage responsibilities, and carry themselves confidently in academic and athletic settings.

As a couple, their time at AIC strengthened their relationship by helping them better understand and appreciate each other’s cultures. That mutual respect has deepened their bond and laid a strong foundation for their future.

Built in the Fitness Center

While championship moments shine brightly, it is often the everyday routines that mean the most. For Victoria and Yeudy, the fitness center holds special significance. It was one of the first activities they shared as a couple and remains a consistent part of their routine.

Working out together became more than exercise; it became time to connect, encourage one another, and build discipline that extended beyond sports and into their relationship.

Sports have played a central role in their story. Sharing wins and losses, supporting each other during intense training seasons, and celebrating milestones brought them even closer. Yeudy recalls proudly watching Victoria receive the Yellow Jacket Women of the Year award, while Victoria treasures the moment Yeudy hit for the cycle and broke the stolen bases record.

The Moments That Feel Like Home

As graduation approaches, it is not just the big events they will miss. It is the simple, everyday moments: having lunch together in the dining commons, going to the gym, spending time with teammates and friends.

Those routines, they say, are what made campus feel like home.

Their advice to current students is thoughtful and grounded in experience: support your partner academically, mentally, and physically, but also maintain your individuality. Open communication and respect for personal space are key to balancing relationships, friendships, athletics, and academics.

Carrying AIC Forward

What will they carry with them after graduation? The relationships. The community. The professionalism and discipline they developed both in the classroom and in competition.

AIC has prepared them for the challenges ahead, equipping them with skills and confidence for the real world. While the next chapter awaits, the foundation built here — through shared victories, daily routines, and unwavering support for one another — will remain a lasting part of their story.
