To the Class of 2021:
Congratulations on reaching a significant milestone – graduation!
The distribution of COVID-19 vaccines gives us hope for an eventual return to normalcy; however, there is still considerable uncertainty as to when COVID-19 will be in the rearview mirror. That uncertainty has dictated how we will move forward with the Commencement planning process.
Given current state guidelines, the College will not hold undergraduate and graduate Commencement ceremonies at the MassMutual Center this year. Commencement will be held virtually, and the ceremony will take place on Saturday, May 15, 2021, one week later than originally scheduled, to allow adequate time for all students to return home to celebrate with their families.
The Commencement Planning Committee members are exploring options for holding smaller in-person events to enable those of you wishing to attend to celebrate with your classmates and peers. All small-scale events will follow state requirements for social distancing, masking, and capacity. As gathering limits will likely not allow for guests, in-person celebrations will be live-streamed to give your family the opportunity to share the occasion with you virtually.
State mandates are fluid and may necessitate increasing restrictions; however, we are committed to making every effort to provide celebratory experiences for you. As plans unfold in the weeks ahead, important notices relative to graduation will appear in your email and will be posted on the portal.
There is no question that this has been a challenging year. Your ability to overcome obstacles and your perseverance with your studies should be a great source of pride for you, your faculty, and your families. On behalf of the deans, faculty, and administration, I commend your dedication and extend heartfelt congratulations leading up to your graduation from AIC.
