2018 Success

We are thrilled to report that the 2018 season was a competitive one! The success of our fall season has made me reflect on the growth and success we have enjoyed throughout many of our recent seasons—some of which included many of you! I feel compelled to share with you a brief summary of our highlights from this past season. I am encouraged by our current group of talented, hardworking, young ladies; they give me confidence that this program is set up for continued success! We truly appreciated your continued support as alumni and love hearing back from you.

Building the Team

This fall, we added a strong class of freshmen- bringing in players from the local neighborhood in Springfield and from as far away as California. As you all know, our team also benefits from international flare, as some of our top players hail from Finland, Sweden, and Australia. Although we are diverse, we share the common goal to maintain our competitive edge in the NE10 both off and on the field.

Academic Excellence

Recently we were awarded the NE10 Conference Team Academic Award as we maintained a team cumulative GPA of a 3.0. This award exhibits our commitment to keep academics as our priority, an achievement of which I am extremely proud. Additionally, the academic performance of all AIC athletes has benefitted from the addition of a new Advisor for Student-Athlete Success, Wole Oke. Wole has been a fantastic addition to the department, facilitating more positive academic experiences for our athletes.

Game Impacts

On the field, I was very pleased with our achievements. We had a team record of 9-9-1, improving from only a five-win season last fall. In September, we battled No. 3-ranked Mercy College to a 1-0 double-overtime win, with the game-winning goal scored by Springfield local, Ariana Miranda. In conference, one of our most notable victories was when we traveled to St. Rose and bested them on their turf, also defeating them in overtime. The game-winning goal against St. Rose came from Anniina Sankoh who had a very strong year for us. Several of our players received conference recognition throughout the year:

  • Anniina Sankoh: All-New England First Team
  • Anniina Sankoh: First-Team All-Conference
  • Anniina Sankoh: Rookie of the Week
  • Anniina Sankoh: NE10 Athlete of the Week
  • Federica Frew: All-New England Second Team
  • Federica Frew: Third-Team All-Conference
  • Florina Ravundra: All-New England Second Team
  • Florina Ravundra: Third-Team All-Conference

Future Focused

Looking ahead to our spring season, I am very excited to watch our program continue to grow both on and off the field. Stay tuned for exciting news about our program’s 2019 recruiting class, as the staff and I work tirelessly to bring “difference-makers” to our roster. It was great to see those of you that were able to make our alumni game in October! Although I didn’t make every save in goal, I had loads of fun playing with you guys and spending time catching up after the game.  Without the support of our Alumni, this program would not be where we are today, nor could we count on continued growth in the future. Thank you for your gifts and support, and I look forward to hearing from you!

Best,

Head Coach Kevon Isa
