NAME: Daniel Marchia

HOMETOWN: Chicopee, Massachusetts

AIC AFFILIATION: Nursing major, class of 2020, co-president of the Student Nurses’ Association (SNA)

ON THE SNA: Allows AIC nursing students to develop leadership skills through teaching the community about health initiatives; member since arriving at AIC three years ago; as co-president, responsible for “getting everything set for the other officers to do their jobs”

WHY AIC?: “As soon as I stepped on campus, a warm feeling enveloped me. What AIC is doing for its students is unlike any other campus out there. I went to two schools before this, and I can say that AIC has the best professors.”

IN BRIEF: “I always go into anything I do, first, with respect; second, with care; and, third, with a smile on my face.”

FAVORITE AIC PROFESSOR: “All of them,” but particularly Dina Ditmar, MSN, RN, the faculty advisor for SNA, who “always has a smile on her face, is always there when you need her,” and Althea Michel, MSN, RN, “a wonderful professor and person”

PROUDEST MOMENT: “Deciding to go to AIC. I was a criminal justice major before, and I think the decision to switch into nursing and pursue that at AIC, to really lay the foundation here, has been the best decision I’ve made in my life.”

A WORD OF ADVICE: “It’s a tough road, but if you stick with it and you really believe in yourself and your professors, and what they can do for you and what you can do for yourself, you can achieve anything here.”

HONORS: Dean’s List; award for highest GPA among junior nursing students, 2018

PHILOSOPHY: “If you’re not laughing, you’re not living.”

WHAT’S NEXT? Move to Colorado and get a job in the cardiac unit of a hospital, then do travel nursing before, ultimately, going back to school for a master’s or doctorate and becoming a teacher, because “the best thing anybody can do is teach a younger generation”
