Members of AIC instructor Carol de Carlo’s advertising class were treated to breakfast and a special recognition from Spirit of Springfield President Judy Matt for their creative talents at a recent celebration of the organization’s 25th anniversary.

The Spirit of Springfield is a private, non-profit corporation which produces high-quality, large-scale events in the city of Springfield whose mission is to promote community events and encourage civic pride. Some of the exciting and fun events the organization is responsible for include the Parade of Big Balloons (welcoming Santa Claus to town with Springfield’s own 75-foot inflatable “Cat in the Hat”), Bright Nights (pure magic with millions of twinkling lights), the Pancake Breakfast (the world’s largest, really!), and Star Spangled Springfield (one spectacular ka-boom of fireworks on July 4th).

The advertising class, working with Ms. de Carlo, put together a proposal that members will present later this month requesting corporate sponsorship for the upcoming Star Spangled Springfield event. “The idea is to have the class do real work for real people. It’s inspired them,” says Ms. de Carlo.

The Honey Team, as these future ad execs call themselves, initially presented their marketing proposal to the staff of Spirit of Springfield and got the green light to go forward with their ideas and outreach. They will be taking their proposal on the road, making their pitch to the director of advertising at a major Springfield-based corporation later this month.

Move over Mad Men, there’s a new game in town!
