Springfield, MA — American International College (AIC) has introduced two innovative online Master of Science programs: Population and Community Health Practice and Sport and Human Performance. These programs address the growing need for skilled professionals in community health and athletic performance.
Master of Science in Population and Community Health Practice
The Master of Science in Population and Community Health Practice prepares graduates to develop and implement strategies that address contemporary health challenges, including infectious diseases, chronic illnesses, and health disparities. The curriculum emphasizes prevention and the creation of healthier environments through a focus on upstream and downstream determinants of health.
Graduates will be equipped for careers in diverse settings, such as hospitals, community organizations, public health agencies, and health insurers. Career paths may include Public Health Analyst, Health Policy Advisor, Community Health Program Manager, Population Health Data Analyst, Health Education Specialist, and Health Equity Specialist. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects significant growth in these fields, with some positions expected to increase by up to 36 percent by 2033.
“This program represents a shift toward grassroots, community-centered public health solutions,” said Dayna Campbell, assistant professor of Public Health. “While rooted in traditional public health practices, the curriculum emphasizes engaging directly with communities to co-create sustainable solutions tailored to their unique challenges.”
Through this program, students will gain the skills to collaborate with community members in developing strategies that shape public health policies and programs, with a focus on reducing disparities and improving access to quality healthcare.
Master of Science in Sport and Human Performance
The Master of Science in Sport and Human Performance provides an advanced foundation in performance coaching, sport science, and physical education. Students will learn to design and implement scientifically informed exercise and conditioning programs that enhance athletic performance.
Graduates will be well-positioned for careers in professional sports organizations, academic institutions, and fitness-related businesses. They will also be eligible to sit for the Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) examination through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) if they have not already done so.
“This program is designed for working professionals, offering an advanced education in sport and human performance,” said Susan Lachowski, executive director of Health and Human Performance. “The online format expands access, broadening opportunities for career advancement and meet growing market demands.”
Sport and Human Performance Residency Program
An optional Sport and Human Performance Residency Program complements the online curriculum, offering a one-week intensive on AIC’s campus. The residency provides hands-on training with advanced metabolic and body composition equipment, coaching techniques, and certifications in specialized areas.
Open to both students and external professionals for a separate fee, this program offers practical experience and collaborative opportunities, distinguishing participants in the competitive field of sport and human performance.
