AIC Students: Good Neighbors

AIC students perform community service

AIC students are busy!  They’re not just occupied with their own studies or athletics or organizations and clubs on campus. They’re invested in helping the greater community as well.

This month, more than 100 students volunteered to help neighbors who needed assistance with fall clean up. They rose early Sunday morning to get the job done and help people on nearly a dozen streets surrounding the College.

Springfield student-athletes receive academic and emotional support with the local Scholar Athletes program of which AIC a major collaborator.

The program was founded in 2009 in Boston through the efforts of then-Mayor Thomas Menino, Suffolk Construction Company chairman and CEO John Fish and former Boston Breakers professional soccer player Rebekah Salwasser, who serves as the executive director of the program. A major collaborator has been AIC, which provides credit to students who tutor at the school for at least two hours a week.

Springfield Schools Superintendent Daniel Warwick cites AIC as the most supportive college of this program in Springfield or in Boston. “I am so proud of AIC,” he said.
