Excitement on Ice

AIC men's ice hockey hosts UMass at the MassMutual Center

AIC hockey will welcome UMass to the MassMutual Center on Tuesday, February 9 at 7:05pm. The excitement is building as we host our Upper Valley neighbors and powerful Hockey East team for the first time.

At the helm of AIC hockey is Head Coach Gary Wright. Coach Wright is one of the longest term tenured NCAA Division I hockey coaches in the nation! With more than 300 career wins, Coach is one of a select group to have achieved that status. According to Coach Wright, “Playing UMass in the MassMutual Center should prove to be a wonderful event. It will showcase both Western Mass Division I hockey programs in a great venue in downtown Springfield and it will help celebrate the sport of hockey in this area. The fact that the game will be held just a short drive down State Street from our campus is appealing.”

Team members skating for AIC will include 2015 Hobey Baker nominee and Springfield native Austin Orszulak, freshman Trevor Cope, who was recently named Rookie of the Week by the Atlantic Hockey Association, and Minnesota’s Bryant Christian whose grandfather won Olympic gold and whose uncle, Dave Christian, also won Olympic Gold as part of the Miracle on Ice team in 1980.

Tickets are $10 (adults), $6 (children 12 and under/seniors 65+) and are available online at www.aic.edu/puck or at the door. Veterans and youth hockey players (12 and under) wearing their team jersey are FREE.

With only 60 Division I teams in the country, this promises to be exciting high-level hockey and a fun family event.
