Hooping It Up at AIC

Hoop Up Springfield Job fair a girl inquires about a job opportunity

For the third year, American International College has hosted Hoop Up Springfield an annual summer job fair and basketball tournament for young people in the greater Springfield area. The job fair, conducted before the tournament, allows participants to meet with potential employers as well as practice resume building.

Hampden District Attorney Anthony D. Gulluni stated, “Studies have shown that summer jobs help to reduce crime among youth and young adults. Assisting our young people in accessing summer employment will help keep them engaged and healthy during summer while providing them with a professional experience and connection that they will carry with them into adulthood.”

Employers on-site to interview potential employees for the summer were Six Flags New England, Starbucks Coffee Company, Taylor Made Communications LLC, Big Y, Westover Job Corps, Performance Food Group, Boys & Girls Club, Springfield Parks, Building, & Recreation, Springfield Police Department, and Springfield Fire Department.

For those too young to enter the workforce, Skills ‘n Drills and cheerleading clinics take place in the morning before the 3-on-3 tournament begins after lunch catered by Chartwells, the dining services provider for AIC.
