Men’s Basketball Team Members Stand Tall in the Eyes of Springfield Students

AIC Men’s Basketball team welcomes Springfield Public School

The Springfield Public Day School is a special education institution within the Springfield Public School system. The visit was part of the school’s Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) initiative that encourages the students to do their best, follow directions and use strategies effectively.

AIC Men’s Basketball Head Coach Andy Burkholder and members of the team visited the Springfield Public Day School twice in the past year. This time, they wanted the students come to campus to experience the college setting up close and personal. “We are proud of what we have here at AIC. It was personally satisfying for me to show the students what the AIC basketball program and the College is all about,” said Coach Burkholder.

Linda Toussaint, adjustment counselor for Springfield Public Day Elementary School, who accompanied the group said, “This was an experience for these young boys to be exposed to college life, where they may not normally be. When they ate lunch with the team members they were engaged in conversations about how to be successful and how to make it to and through college. To hear these messages from young men actually living this experience was very powerful. Many of our students returned to school stating that they wanted to attend college at AIC someday!”
