Paying it Forward

Daisy award winner photo by The Springfield Republican

For Katie Oliver, who graduated from AIC in 2017, everything is coming up roses…and daisies!

At 10 years old, Katie was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease. She was in and out of the Shriners Hospital for Children in Springfield for more than one year. More than a decade later, Katie is now a nurse at that same hospital, determined to provide care to a new generation of children like she received when a patient herself.

The 24-year-old West Springfield, MA native was recently recognized by Shriners Hospitals for Children as the 2019 DAISY Award recipient for her compassionate nursing care. She was one of eight nurses at the facility nominated, receiving nominations from patient families and other staff members.
