Thirteen members of American International College’s 2017-18 Division I men’s ice hockey team have been named “All-American Scholars” by the American Hockey Coaches Association. To earn this honor, a student-athlete must attain a 3.6 grade-point average or higher for each semester while also participating in 40 percent of his team’s games.

But wait…there’s more. AIC, alongside fellow Atlantic Hockey institution Air Force, is tied for the most selections among all Division I men’s programs.

Who are these scholar-athletes? Earning the honors were senior Bryant Christian, sophomore Patrik Demel, freshman Brennan Kapcheck, sophomore Joel Kocur, sophomore Nicolas Luka, senior Johno May, junior Shawn McBride, sophomore Martin Mellberg, sophomore Jared Pike, junior Ryan Polin, redshirt senior Dominic Racobaldo, sophomore Hugo Reinhardt, and sophomore Zackarias Skog.

The Yellow Jackets previously had 23 student-athletes named to the Atlantic Hockey Academic All-Conference Team. Christian and Mellberg, who both own perfect 4.0 GPAs, were named Atlantic Hockey Student-Athletes of the Year.
